New Botulism Treatment Resources for Healthcare Professionals

Fast action is required when treating patients who might have botulism, a rare but serious illness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention resources below provide step-by-step guidance to help you recognize and treat people who might have this disease.

CDC’s video walks healthcare professionals through preparing and administering antitoxin for the treatment of botulism. This five-minute video answers questions that providers often ask during clinical consultation with CDC. The video can also help guide public health officials and first responders if a large botulism outbreak occurs.

Infant Botulism: Information for Clinicians, a new page on CDC’s botulism website, guides health care providers through steps to take if a patient has signs and symptoms of infant botulism. The webpage includes detailed information on case consultation, treatment, diagnostic testing, reporting, and more. This information is also available as a printable PDF.
