Overview: Obesity is a complex disease with many contributing factors, but Hispanic and non-Hispanic Black adults have a higher prevalence of obesity and are more likely to suffer worse outcomes from COVID-19. In addition, historically some racial and ethnic minority groups have not had broad opportunities for economic, physical, and emotional health, and these inequities have increased the risk of more severe illness or dying from COVID-19. Creating a nation in which everyone has access to safe and convenient opportunities for active living requires teamwork including expertise from those in public health, transportation, planning, business, healthcare, and parks and recreation.
