Overview

National Preparedness Month (NPM) is recognized each September to promote personal, family, and whole community emergency preparedness and planning throughout the year. CDC hosted a webinar on Wednesday, September 15, at 1 p.m. ET.

The webinar featured presentations by

  • CDC’s Center for Preparedness and Response about NPM and the theme of this year’s social media toolkit, #BringDownBarriers.
  • CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities about common barriers to participation experienced by people with disabilities.
  • Georgia Tech’s Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation about how they’ve worked during the COVID-19 response to make sure that guidelines are accessible, culturally appropriate, and relevant to the challenges people with disabilities face during emergency response situations.

CDC encourages leaders who are responsible for the safety of others to review the recording. This includes community leaders, public health workers, emergency responders, school administrators, managers of assisted living facilities, and workplace safety officers. Closed captioning and an ASL interpreter was available.
