Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS) - Radiological Incident Response
CDC's NCEH/ATSDR Office of Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response is once again sponsoring attendance at one of the nation's preeminent courses in handling radiological dispersion device (RDD) emergencies. The course is designed to put medical personnel, emergency planners and law enforcement professionals together to exchange ideas and learn more about the responses needed in case a "dirty bomb" is detonated in their communities.

The course will be conducted by staff from the internationally-recognized Radiation Emergency Assistance Center based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Since 1976, the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) has positioned the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as an international leader in emergency medical response to radiation incidents through their management of the Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS). REAC/TS works closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as the World Health Organization (WHO).

The 30 available openings in each four-day course will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The dates for the next scheduled training session are June 24-27, 2008. The fourth day includes a hands-on practice which will be coordinated and critiqued by REAC/TS staff. The hands-on drill puts all the classroom information in perspective and has been the highlight of the class for most participants.

The following information is needed from each potential participant: Name ; Degree ; Occupation ; Country of Citizenship ; Home Address ; Home Phone ; Work Address ; Work Phone ; Work Fax ; E-Mail Address

If anyone is not a U.S. citizen additional paperwork is required and some may require prior approval by ORAU Safeguards and Security Department before they can attend a course.
